Promise Keepers Canada is thrilled to announce the launch of Seven magazine.
Until recently, Promise Keepers had distributed New Man magazine as part of its
efforts to provide men with personal growth resources at home. According to Jeff
Stearns, Marketing Manager for Promise Keepers Canada, while New Man fulfilled a
need for a Christian men’s magazine it was not without problems, “Over time the
need for a Canadian magazine had become obvious. Editions with George Bush, the
American flag and Mike Huckabee on the cover just didn’t resonate very well with
the guys”
Promise Keepers Canada has partnered with ChristianWeek to create a “made in
Canada” solution. Doug Koop from ChristianWeek explains: “The new magazine’s
primary audience is Canadian men. It will focus on issues in the Canadian
context, but will not ignore the rest of the world.”
Seven magazine will be more than just Canadian, it will be a Christian magazine
for men. According to Doug “The magazine will uphold Christian principles
unapologetically and joyfully... it will be thoroughly rooted in Christian
understandings. It seeks to provide information and perspectives grounded in a
biblically informed worldview.”
The intent of Seven magazine may be clear but the name Seven has already started
to raise questions. Ron Hannah, President of Promise Keepers Canada, explains
the rationale behind the name:
“For those familiar with God’s word, the number seven is often used as a sign of
completeness... The number seven is also very significant for Promise Keepers
and references the Seven Promises of a Promise Keeper... 1) Honour Jesus Christ
2) Accountability 3) Commitment to Purity 4) Building Godly Families 5) Support
the Body of Christ 6) Unite in Biblical Unity and 7) A Commitment to the Great
Commandment and the Great Commission.”
Biblical does not mean boring. Seven will “be unafraid to be controversial, but
not interested in being confrontational. It will not shirk from an edgy approach
and no topic is off limits... It’s written with an appreciation for the
complexity of things; not given to simplistic or formulaic responses” says Doug.
Jeff is confident that Seven is the ministry tool Promise Keepers needed, “We
have put together a gifted team and I can’t wait for the first issue. This is
the solution we were looking for. Men are going to love it”
