A Man After God’s Own Heart

In Daily Devotional by Kirk Giles

Theme of the Week: The Heart

Bible Verse: “I have found David the son of Jesse to be a man after my own heart, who will carry out all my will.” Acts 13:22

As we have looked at the heart this week, I want to encourage you to know that it is possible for you to have God’s heart. King David – with all his weaknesses and failures – is known as a man after God’s own heart. Throughout the Bible, there are specific examples of God giving people hearts that bring out God’s ideas for the world (see Nehemiah 7:5; 1 Kings 10:24; 2 Corinthians 8:16).

The heart is the “why you do what you do” – the “why you feel what you feel” – the “why you think what you think.”

Don’t just pay attention to your actions, look deeper at what is going on in your heart.

Some of us have hearts that feel broken and defeated. Others have hearts that are defiant and strong. But all of us have a heart and our actions reveal a deeper story of what is going on inside of us.

Your deceitful heart is defrauding you.

Be careful when it comes to listening to your heart. Our hearts are all deceitful and they can lead us down a path of destruction.

You and I need a heart transplant and only one person can give it to us. God is our only hope.

Ask God to give you a new heart and to keep your heart clean. This prayer will change the way you approach God and life with all your various issues and concerns.

The desires of your heart can be good.

Delight in God and the desires of your heart can reflect his desires.

God gives you a new heart, but he wants you to keep guarding or protecting your heart from sinful influences creeping back in.

Filter everything in your life through the lens of God’s words to you. This is how you will guard your heart.
