Bible Verse: … let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. (1 John 3:18)

Our family was at a point of significant need. Being Dad I was stressed out wondering how we would get through. I wanted to solve the ‘problem’ but knew I simply could not.

On Saturday morning, a knock on the door caused our little girl to kind of dance along the hall to answer. two men’s voices saying, “Hello little one” got me to the door really quick. I did not know who these guys were. “Who are you and where are you from?” They smiled and said that neither of those things mattered, they were brothers in the Lord and wanted to help. In they marched and delivered help. Wow! They had heard about our circumstances even though I thought no one knew.

My second reaction was deep gratitude. My first was to swallow my pride and accept help, partly because they gave me no choice. It was a big lesson. It was a great teachable moment for Dad and kids – take care of people in need, no matter what church they attend or if they don’t go to church at all. I had to learn to let people minister to my family even though I would rather be on the solving side of the equation.

Enjoy providing help! Do so with others. When you need help, accept it when it comes, because God uses folks just like us to deliver it.
