Bible Verse: Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. Ephesians 6:4
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 6:1-4
How many times have you heard the saying, “He’s just like his old man?” Whether good or bad, directly or indirectly, we compare, make mental notes, and judge others.
We all have opportunities as fathers, grandfathers, and future dads to bond with our sons and show them how to live a life that is Christ-centered. There are going to be days when you feel really great about your skills as a dad, and then there are going to be some when you tank! Keep trying. Keep praying for wisdom. Recognize that your child is watching how you handle the good, the bad, and the ugly situations.
Some of you may say, “Well, I had a lousy father,” or “I grew up in a home with an absent dad,” or “Mine was too busy to make time for me.” Hopefully you see the importance of breaking that cycle, and are trying to draw from other positive role models in your life. God sees your effort and will reward you.
As a father, you may not always get the “most popular dad” trophy, but now more than ever fathers need to step up and take ownership in the lives of their kids. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Your kids are going be older someday. Point them in their Heavenly Father’s direction today.
