Bible Verse: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25)

Scripture Reading: Matthew 7:1-29

We started this [week] with the words of Jesus, “I have come that you may have life, and that you may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). The central reality of becoming a Christian is that your spirit that was dead and dormant is regenerated by receiving the Life of Christ. This infusion of God’s Spirit empowers you to experience life at a whole new level. The contrast is like going from a black and white world to one of full colour. Not only does God want you to enjoy this new Life, but He wants you to manifest it to others. You are the prism that shines forth the full colour spectrum of God’s Life to the world.

We have seen how God’s L.I.F.E. includes four primary attributes – Love, Integrity, Forgiveness and Excellence which are expressed to the world in the following ways:

  • Godly Love is manifested by giving unselfishly to the needs of others without desiring personal recognition or reward.
  • Godly Integrity is manifested by living up to all that you know and, when failing to do so, freely confessing to God and others where you fall short.
  • Godly Forgiveness is manifested by forgiving everybody, all the time, for everything before they ask, and before they change.
  • Godly Excellence is manifested by caring for everything and doing everything to the very best of your ability, as though you were doing it for God.

These attributes of God are beyond our natural capability to produce and can only be expressed by cooperating and yielding to the Spirit of God. The more we understand the nature of these components of God’s L.I.F.E. the more we can work with Him in expressing them. As we do so, we begin to figure out why we go through the things we do. We discover that the difficult times in our life are utilized by God to showcase His attributes. God never wastes a hurt. As we embrace this understanding, we attach new meaning to the things we face and begin to react differently. Our attitude changes and we become more concerned about our reaction in a situation than the situation itself.

We find ourselves on an ever improving journey through life that brings glory to God and inspires the people around us. Receiving Christ certainly gives us an abundant life!
