Bible Verse: “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 3:1-18

The Bible teaches that God is spirit and undetectable to our physical, natural eyes. In fact, it was that way for much of human history. Before Jesus Christ came to earth, God had no living manifestation in the physical, natural world to which people could relate. He was only revealed through creation and the written Word. Then Jesus was born and walked the earth and the scriptures declared Him to be the image of God (Hebrews 1:3).

Jesus was God manifest in the flesh – the physical expression of God. If you wanted to know what God was like, all you had to do was look at Jesus. If you wanted to see God’s love it was shown in Jesus’ compassion for children and the hurt and wounded on earth. If you wanted to get a sense of God’s judgment, you could find it in His words of condemnation to the hypocritical and insincere religious leaders of the day. The life of Jesus was remarkable. It amazed and delighted, as well as dismayed and angered. His life was a light that revealed the hearts of men. To this day, His life and teachings are revered and universally admired regardless of religious persuasion of lack thereof.

Just before Jesus left this earth and ascended into Heaven, He prayed that the glory that the Father had given Him would be given to His followers (John 17:22). He then told His disciples that the Holy Spirit would be given to them and that He would guide and direct them and show them how to live (John 16:13). The job of expressing God to the world passed from the physical body of Jesus to the Church. So as you might expect, the Church is called the Body of Christ (Ephesians 1:22-23).

A story is told about a little boy in Sunday School. The teacher had given the children some free time to draw a picture. After a while, the teacher looked over the shoulder of a little boy, admiring his work. The child was drawing a picture of an old man with long hair and a beard. She asked him just who it was he was drawing. The boy answered, “I’m drawing a picture of God.” The teacher responded, “God is a Spirit, no one has ever seen Him. No one knows what God looks like.” The little boy just smiled and said, “They will when I’m finished!”

What does God look like? Like the little boy, we are the answer to that question. God has determined that He will reveal Himself to the world through us. Those around us will know what God looks like by looking at our lives. Four basic aspects of Christ’s L.I.F.E are Love, Integrity, Forgiveness and Excellence. God wants to shine each of these four facets of His life to the people around us. [We will look at each of them in the next few days].
